The Ministry of Culture will launch the Rouanet nas Favelas program, which will invest R$5 million in the states of Pará, Maranhão, Ceará, Bahia and Goiás. The idea of the project is to decentralize the resources of the Rouanet Law, the main mechanism for promoting culture in the country — one of minister Margareth Menezes’ promises.

The decree published this year by the Lula government (PT) that establishes new guidelines for the standard allows public notices to be created with resources from Rouanet, making the ministry work with sponsors, establishing guidelines and criteria that will have to be respected.

Rouanet nas Favelas is carried out in partnership with Cufa (Central Única das Favelas), Vale and the Vale Cultural Institute. The program will be launched next Tuesday (24) at an event in São Luís (MA) with the participation of the minister.

On that date, a term of commitment will be signed that inaugurates the program — the notices detailing the rules of Rouanet in Favelas should be launched in November.

According to the Ministry of Culture, the states were selected because they have a low rate of approved projects to capture funds and rely on Vale’s activities. The resources will be allocated to projects in communities in each of the chosen states.
