Ministry of Health incinerated an average of 200,000 doses of vaccine per day

The Bolsonaro Government bequeathed to the Lula Government approximately 36 million vaccines that had expired or were about to expire, without sufficient time for use. With that, the Ministry of Health incinerated these doses in the first half of this year, an average of 200,000 doses discarded per day.

For every 10 doses of vaccine discarded, nine expired in 2022 or until March of this year. Of the total contingent, 66% of vaccines are for Covid, with 24.3 million doses. Then, with 15%, the triple vaccine, or DTP (diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis), with 5.6 million doses. The yellow fever vaccine, with 3.3 million incinerated doses, represented 9% of the total.

Canine rabies vaccines were also ruled out; BCG (severe tuberculosis); hexavalent (diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, poliomyelitis, hepatitis B and Hib); chickenpox; viral tetra (measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox); and cholera.

Also according to the Ministry of Health, the agency managed to save another 12.3 million vaccines with emergency actions this semester, obtaining savings of R$ 251 million.
