Two inmates escaped from Mossoró maximum security prison.

They left the cells through the ceiling, which had no concrete reinforcement. The security cameras didn’t work, and the alarm didn’t sound. Finally, they didn’t have a wall in the way. They opened a hole in the fence and went ahead.

The Ministry of Justice announced that it is investigating the possible complicity of prison officers. It could also investigate the haphazard purchase of very expensive equipment to the detriment of the construction of walls.

After all, the wall yields little, does not require a technical assistance contract and is not offered by intermediaries operating in Brasília.

An owl livens up New York

A blizzard, two wars and a failed presidential succession could dampen New York’s mood. The owl Flaco livened up a part of the city. A year ago, Flaco escaped from the Central Park Zoo and became the most photographed character in Manhattan. It flies around the park, lands on balconies or terraces and has been seen dozens of blocks away.

Flaco escaped the traps, cars and food containing poison to kill rats. He got a good report in the New York Times and a Wikipedia entry bigger than that of Willow, President Joe Biden’s cat.

In some cultures, seeing an owl is good luck, in others it is not. In New York, where you can see everything, finding an owl in your window is something new.

It doesn’t hurt to remember what happened to him. He became the gardener Franz Lang. A year after the end of the war, an English troop learned of his whereabouts, but Lang denied being Höss. Captain Hanns Alexander, a Berlin Jew who hunted Nazis, asked to see his wedding ring. It was engraved: “Rudolf – Hedwig”.

Alexander saved Höss from a lynching, and in 1947, at age 45, he was hanged in Auschwitz, near the crematorium and Hedwig’s garden.

Doctor Josef Mengele, his colleague in the field, was more fortunate. He changed his name, came to Brazil, traveled through Argentina and Paraguay, sometimes with his real identity, returned to São Paulo and only died in 1979, on Bertioga beach.
