Minister Sônia Guajajara visits institutions dedicated to indigenous peoples – News of Brazil

The Minister of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil, Sonia Guajajara, accompanied by the governor, Clecio Luis, and technical team, carried out an agenda in Amapá last Wednesday (25), where they met with indigenous leaders and visited the offices of the National Indian Foundation (Funai) and the Special Indigenous Sanitary District (I know).
The Minister of State took part, on Wednesday, in the inauguration of the new managers of the Indigenous Peoples, Simone Karipuna, and Josilana Oliveira, from the Marabaixo Foundation. In meetings with the authorities, the minister listened to the wishes of each community.
“The ministry is new and we have a great responsibility to put together a strategy to lead this unique moment for the indigenous people. We want to work by listening to the problems of each people and, in this way, move forward with public policies”emphasized Sonia Guajajara.
The Government of Amapá also defends the commitment to reinforce the dialogue with this part of the population. The Secretariat for Indigenous Peoples now has a new format, with the participation of four assistant secretaries in its composition, representing four regions of Amapá with indigenous peoples, such as the Wajãpi, Waiana, Galibi Marworno and Galibi Kali’na.
Innovation arises to ensure that each community will have, in the public body, a person knowledgeable about its reality and needs. “We are going to work in all locations and with all peoples, always listening to the population, so that we can develop services with property”highlighted Simone Karipuna.
Strategic actions in villages in Amapá
Accompanying the agenda of the minister and the secretary of Indigenous Peoples, was the dental surgeon and first lady of the State, Priscilla Flores. Currently, it makes a project possible together with the non-profit organization Doutores da Amazônia, which carries out medical and dental actions, using high technology, in the villages, in partnership with the Government of Amapá and entities of the Federal Government.
“I am pleased to receive the minister and, together with secretary Simone Karipuna, I participate in conversations with indigenous leaders to learn about the difficulties of each people. In early January, we were in Wajãpi territory, where we will set up a plan to work in the medical area and also in oral health. This will not be a one-off action, but planning for the next four years, which will start in the Wajãpi territory and the proposed actions will be extended to the other indigenous territories of our state”pointed out the dentist.
