The new Minister of Tourism, Celso Sabino (União Brasil-PA), and the president of Embratur, Marcelo Freixo (PT), will have their first joint public agenda next week since the man from Pará took over the portfolio.
They will participate in the Amazon Dialogues, in Belém (PA), which will take place from the 4th to the 6th of August. The event seeks to discuss new strategies for the region, in a kind of preparation for COP30, a climate conference to be held in 2025 in the capital of Pará.
“We’re going to be together in Belém next week”, says Freixo. “I already took him [Sabino] a whole schedule of national and international tourism events until December. I also took agendas from Embratur, so that we can work together.”
Allied with the president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), Sabino replaced Daniela Carneiro in the position, in an attempt by the Lula government to improve its base in the Chamber of Deputies. Freixo’s position itself was pointed out as one of those coveted by the centrão within the negotiations that are taking place.
The president of Embratur says that the changes did not affect work at the agency. “The government gives total assurance that our work continues, so we are working, we are doing it”, he says. “I know Celso [Sabino] a long time ago, we were deputy together, and I think it will be good to work together.”
