The Minister of the GSI (Institutional Security Office), General Gonçalves Dias, presented a medical certificate this Wednesday (19) to justify his decision not to attend the Public Security Committee of the Chamber.
In response, parliamentarians must approve a request to summon the minister to provide clarification on the action of the GSI during the invasion of the headquarters of the Powers, on January 8.
The certificate was sent by an advisor to the minister to the secretary of the parliamentary commission. The document is signed by the doctor João Luiz Henrique da Silveira.
“I certify for the purposes of presenting to the Chamber of Deputies that Minister Marco Edson Gonçalves Dias was attended by the Medical Service of the Health Coordination at 1:00 pm on 04/19/2023, with an acute clinical condition and in need of medication and observation, and must have absence from commitments justified by health reasons on the present date”, says the certificate.
The document with the medical opinion was sent hours after CNN Brasil revealed images of the internal security circuit of the Palácio do Planalto during the January 8 attacks. The videos show the performance of GSI soldiers during the invasion of the Executive headquarters.
The vandals received water from the military and greeted GSI agents during the attacks. The images also show Minister Gonçalves Dias walking around the third floor of the palace, in the anteroom of the President of the Republic’s office, while the acts took place on the floor below.
