Minister of Education must provide clarifications on Sisu in the Senate

The Education Committee of the Federal Senate approved this Tuesday (27) an invitation addressed to the Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, for him to appear and provide clarifications on the problems related to the Unified Selection System (Sisu). The request was presented by senator Alessandro Vieira (MDB-SE) and a hearing should be scheduled soon.

On February 2nd, the MEC admitted that “there was an improper disclosure of provisional results” from Sisu, which had not yet been approved, for 25 minutes on the morning of January 30th.

On the day the results were announced, Sisu’s page became unstable and went offline. On the same day, the MEC reported that it “identified technical problems in the system and restarted the approval protocols”, postponing the release of the results until Wednesday, the 31st. The list released on the 31st differed from the first result that was improperly released.

According to Vieira, the successive instabilities in the operationalization of the MEC’s ​​electronic systems affect students’ planning and the selection process calendars no longer coincide. “Given the importance of Sisu, it is essential that it operates in the most transparent and fair way possible. Intercurrences in the operationalization of the system have been harming the result of this policy over the years”, highlights Vieira in a note sent to Gazeta do Povo.

The Unified Selection System (Sisu) is an electronic system managed by the MEC for vacancies offered by public higher education institutions throughout Brazil. The system selects students based on the average grade of the National High School Exam (Enem) up to the limit of vacancies available, by course and type of competition, according to the choices of registered candidates and socioeconomic profile for Law of Quotas.

For the senator, the lack of adequate clarification and the delay in official communication generate uncertainty and apprehension in the student community. Given this scenario, Vieira considers it important to hear from the MEC about the measures adopted to resolve the impacts caused by instability and measures to avoid systemic problems in future selection processes.
