Minister Kassio Nunes Marques, of the Federal Supreme Court, determined this Monday (20) that the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL) must provide information on the processing of Provisional Measures (MPs), within a period of 10 days. The decision responds to a complaint filed by Senator Alessandro Vieira (PSDB-SE).

“I believe that prior collection of clarifications is indispensable for the adequate and safe confrontation of the clear and certain right invoked”, says Nunes Marques in the decision.

The processing of MPs has been the reason for an impasse between the Chamber and the Senate. Since February, Senator Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG) authorized the resumption of commissions, but the resumption has been avoided by Lira.

In the action analyzed in the STF, the toucan senator requests, via an injunction, the resumption of the processing of the provisional measures in the manner provided for by the Federal Constitution, with the appointment of joint committees, preventing the maintenance of the omission of the president of the Chamber of Deputies. The parliamentarian had already filed a writ of mandamus against Lira, last Tuesday (14).

Faced with the complaints, the mayor, Arthur Lira (PP-AL) considered the possibility of making changes to the Constitution to prevent joint committees with the Senate from being resumed. “A rational way has to be found to avoid the return of joint committees, because they were undemocratic with the plenary sessions of the Chamber and the Senate. And we are going to find a way, even if it is by making a constitutional change, to adjust this issue”, he said in the March 15 session.
