Military allege crisis protocol in peaceful approach to invaders

During a statement to the Federal Police (PF) this Sunday (23), the nine military personnel from the Institutional Security Office (GSI) caught by the closed circuit cameras at the Planalto Palace explained that they did not arrest the invaders due to the “life risk” involved. in the situation, according to information from the Portal G1.

The images released on Wednesday (19) by CNN Brasil suggest that the employees of the body responsible for protecting the President of the Republic and the Presidency’s assets acted passively and even favorably to the action of invaders on January 8th.

By order of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), the military were heard at the PF headquarters in Brasília as part of the investigation of acts of vandalism in Praça dos Três Poderes. The images from the Planalto Palace showing GSI servers interacting with the invaders resulted in the resignation of General Marco Gonçalves Dias, the body’s chief minister, who was also present.

The investigation seeks to determine whether there was collaboration between the GSI and the militants. Video recordings show moments when agents talked to intruders, advised them to leave rooms and offices and even served them water, as was the case with Major José Eduardo Natale. In the deposition, the military claimed that everything was part of the crisis management technique.

The military also explained that the invaders were far superior in number to the GSI present, making it impossible to react. They repeated the justification given by G. Dias, as Lula’s former minister is known, that the strategy was to take the invaders from the third and fourth floors to be arrested on the second.

On Friday (21), Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur for investigations into acts of vandalism in Praça dos Três Poderes, determined that everyone be heard by the PF within 48 hours. G. Moraes also ordered the breach of secrecy of the images captured during the invasion to be sent to the ongoing investigation at the STF. The images were in the possession of the GSI and were used as initial evidence to justify the opening of an investigation against those involved.
