Former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro defended the installation of a CPI on furniture from the Palácio da Alvorada, in response to the current government’s questions about the disappearance of furniture from the palace.

In a sequence of stories, answering a follower’s question, Michelle said on Sunday night (16) that the missing furniture is in the Presidency’s warehouse and that she used her own furniture from the second half of 2019.

“I spent six months sleeping in Alvorada’s bed, a bed that other presidents have certainly used. In the second half of 2019, my move arrived, even at the request of my daughter Laura, who wanted us to make a room with our furniture from our house in Rio de Janeiro. We removed the furniture. This furniture went to the warehouse”, said the former first lady.

According to the Presidency’s Communication Secretariat (Secom), the curatorship of the official residences initially identified 261 missing pieces of furniture from Alvorada. After three months, there are still 83 that have not been located.

“The furniture is there. But, unfortunately, those who preach humility, simplicity, don’t want to live in the simple, okay. [Estão] mocking and playing with taxpayer money,” he said.

“We stayed at Alvorada for four years, we didn’t do any bidding for the trousseau. There was no towel, decent bedding. I used my sheets on my bed, on the guest bed, so as not to bid, because I understood the moment we were living. Now I suggest the Alvorada furniture CPI”, he added.

Such as Sheet showed last week, the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) spent BRL 196,770 on five pieces of furniture and a mattress for the Alvorada Palace.

A bed, two sofas and two armchairs were purchased from a store in a design and decoration mall in Brasília. In another store, the government bought a king size mattress.

The highest costs were for the sofa with an electric mechanism (reclining for the head and feet), which cost R$65,140, ​​and the bed, for R$42,230. The pieces are upholstered in 100% natural Italian leather with an exclusive treatment to prevent dryness.

The parts list was obtained by Sheet through the Freedom of Information Act.

At the end of January, Lula complained about not being able to move to the palace, saying that he was “homeless” and that they hadn’t even found a bed in the presidential room when they inspected the Alvorada.

Secom (Presidency’s Social Communication Secretariat) stated that the purchase was due to the state in which the palace furniture was found and reinforced that the furniture is now part of the Union’s collection.

In an interview with GloboNews, first lady Rosângela da Silva, known as Janja, took a tour of Alvorada and said she found the place unkempt, broken and missing furniture. A Sheet also asked for access to the palace, but was not granted.
