Messi, Haaland and De Bruyne are shortlisted for the 2022/23 UEFA Player of the Year award

Belgian midfielder Kevin de Bruyne and Norwegian striker Erling Haaland, from Manchester City, and Lionel Messi, who played in the European season for Paris Saint-Germain and is now at Inter Miami, in the United States, were nominated for the Player of the Year award. UEFA’s year 2022/2023, the organization said on Thursday (17).
The three were nominated after a vote between the coaches of the teams that participated in the three European Cups last season (Champions League, Europa League and Conference League), the coaches of the 55 countries affiliated to UEFA and a panel of journalists from the continent. Each voter had to choose three names from a list of ten.

Messi, who left PSG in July to play for Inter Miami, was world champion with the Argentine national team, the only major title he lacked in his career.
Among the coaches, Spaniard Pep Guardiola, who directs City, Italian Simone Inzaghi, Champions finalist with Inter Milan, and his compatriot Luciano Spalletti, who was Serie A champion with Napoli, are nominated.
