Members of the Union envision Juscelino leaving – 03/03/2023 – Panel

Members of the União Brasil wing who did not embark on the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) recognize that the permanence of Juscelino Filho (União-MA) in the Ministry of Communications is delicate.
As much as they see the PT’s hand in frying the neo-ally, these leaders recognize that Juscelino helped dig his own grave when he took advantage of a trip on a FAB (Brazilian Air Force) plane to participate in a horse auction.
His resignation, therefore, would not cause fissures much more acute than those that the government already faces today with the divided União Brasil. As Juscelino would not have much influence over the bench, although it is officially her indication, the mishaps in votes in Congress do not tend to be much greater than those that are already placed.
In a reserved manner, they remember that Juscelino was not the first choice for the ministry. He was chosen after the PT vetoed Deputy Elmar Nascimento (BA) and after Deputy Paulo Azi (BA) and Senator Professor Dorinha Seabra (TO) refused the polls. The minister would have been chosen from the so-called lower clergy of the party and the episode would be an example that he would not be up to the task.
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said this Thursday (2) that he will talk to the Minister of Communications, Juscelino Filho (União Brasil-MA), and that he will leave the government if he fails to prove his innocence.
The portfolio holder received per diems from the federal government for days without a work schedule in São Paulo, São Luís and even abroad. So far, the total daily rate received by Juscelino on two international trips —to Portugal and Spain— adds up to R$34,200.
Also on Thursday, the minister announced that he had refunded the value of the per diem received on domestic trips.
