Entrepreneur Ramiro Julio Soares Madureira, one of the partners of 123milhas, had to return to the state of Minas Gerais part of the value of a scholarship awarded by the João Pinheiro foundation, after failing to comply with the rules of the undergraduate course in public administration.
He passed the graduation course in public administration and studied between August 2004 and July 2009. During this period, he received a monthly scholarship. The course is the second stage of an annual public competition promoted by the State Department of Planning and Management and by the foundation to fill positions in the career of specialist in public policies and government management.
According to the rules, the businessman would have to have stayed at least two years in his career. Otherwise, he would be obliged to reimburse the state for the updated value of the school services received and the monthly scholarship. Madureira was sworn in in August 2009 and spent around one year and four months in office, or 64.11% of the time stipulated by law.
The foundation, then, filed a lawsuit for him to pay R$ 33,031, arguing that he provided graduation with the expectation of having a qualified public servant and that the businessman did not fulfill his part of the bargain. Justice agreed with a proportional amount, or R$ 11,854.82. The two parties were also obliged to pay half of the costs, procedural expenses and attorney fees, calculated at R$ 1,000.
Sought, the businessman stated that “he made all the payment due at the time and the action was filed.”
