Meeting with the Women’s secretary has an argument at Alesp – 08/09/2023 – Panel

A meeting at the Legislative Assembly of SP (Alesp) was interrupted amid discussions between deputies and the state secretary of Policies for Women, Sonaira Fernandes, this Tuesday (8). Sonaira was summoned by the Commission for the Defense and Rights of Women to account for her management.

The secretariat, created in January by decree of Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), has not yet been regulated by a bill. The folder received a budget of R$ 9.4 million, a small part of the extinct Secretariat of Logistics and Transport.

After more than an hour and a half of debate, deputy Monica Seixas (PSOL) insinuated that Sonaira was being used as a “token to delay the struggle” of women, questioned the budgetary autonomy of the secretariat and whether it would be formalized in law.

“When he says that I am playing the role of a maneuvering mass, he is clearly disrespecting me and committing violence”, countered Sonaira.

Deputy Altair Moraes (Republicans) asked the chairman of the commission at Alesp, Valéria Bolsonaro (PL), to withdraw Mônica’s speech. “Aggressive and stupid speech from one woman to another. Respect has to be mutual, as a man I was offended,” said Moraes.

PT Ana Perugini argued that there was a lack of courtesy on both sides, both on the part of the situation and by the opposition to the government.

Perugini and deputy Paula Nunes, from the Psol feminist group, also questioned whether there were resources and public policies to deliver sanitary pads to imprisoned women, expand the Maria da Penha patrol and comply with the law that determines that all women’s police stations operate 24 hours a day .

“This is too big and cannot be guided by what the media says. The creation of the Women’s Secretariat is after the vote on the LOA (Annual Budget Law). We are executing the budget of the previous administration”, stated Sonaira.

“We have been working with the SSP (Secretary of Public Security) and receiving demands from all municipalities. We are discussing and need to understand what conditions the federal government will give to expand the services provided by the police stations. [24 horas]’ continued the secretary.

Maria Lúcia Amary (PSDB) countered. “Visiting jails, I saw women using breadcrumbs. They are mothers, daughters, paying for crimes with prison. Health is not punishment”.
