Three members of the Movimento Brasil Livre (MBL) were attacked this Thursday afternoon (20) at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), in Porto Alegre.

The MBL activists tried to enter the assembly of the Central Directory of Students (DCE) that deliberated exactly on the MBL itself. After MBL members tried to paint the walls of the DCE premises, on July 6, the students had scheduled a meeting to discuss “the latest attacks by MBL members on the Directorates of the IFCH”.

According to MBL, members of the group went there to find out what would be said about them at the meeting. Upon arriving at the location, they tried to defend themselves by being called fascists and violent, as well as justifying the attempt to paint the walls of the DCE, which had been deprecated with inscriptions supporting communism and left-wing agendas. After noticing the presence of MBL members, the students would have started to attack them with punches and kicks.

“The DCE of humanities courses convened an assembly to discuss how to purge the MBL. Soon, it was me and two other guys to defend the movement, since the event was public. However, as soon as they identified us, they started to attack. They knocked Thomas down with a sweep, started calling us fascists and saying we weren’t welcome there. From then on, it was just slaps and punches”, said Klaus Schuch, in writing, through the event’s press office.
