President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) met, this Monday (6), with members of the National Front of Mayors (FNP) to discuss the priorities of municipalities during the PT government. The demands were presented by the mayor of Aracaju and president of the FNP, Edvaldo Nogueira.

Among the priorities, the mayor defended that municipalities should not be “isolated” from the tax reform debate. In addition, Nogueira asked that the Tax on Services (ISS), collected by municipalities and the Federal District, not be extinguished.

“It was a very positive meeting. We delivered the invitation to our general meeting and he confirmed his presence, valuing the mayors. In addition, we raised some issues that are dear to mayors: the issue of tax reform, because it is very important that the Brazil carries out the tax reform, but that the municipalities are not isolated. It is fundamental that the ISS be maintained, and it is fundamental that this reform has an incisive participation of the mayors, because life happens in cities”, Nogueira told journalists, after the meeting .

Other topics addressed were the fight against hunger, issues related to public transport in the municipalities and measures to try to eliminate queues in the Unified Health System (SUS). On the occasion, the mayors also talked about the creation of a federative council, with the federal government, governors and mayors, to discuss “big projects for the country.
