Judge João Guilherme Lages took office this Monday afternoon (6) as president of the Regional Electoral Court of Amapá (TRE-AP) for the 2023-2025 biennium. He took over from Judge Gilberto Pinheiro.
The ceremony took place in the plenary of the Court. At the same ceremony, the judge Carmo Antônio de Souza was sworn in for the position of magistrate of the body.
Lages became a judge in 2018, obtaining the highest score by merit criteria. Along with the Electoral Justice of Amapá, he served as an electoral judge in Porto Grande in 2003 and Judge of the 2nd zone of Macapá during the years 2005 to 2007. On March 5, 2021, he assumed the functions of Vice-President and Corregidor Regional Electoral of Amapá.
“As a TRE/AP inspector, I was able to participate in the most complicated elections in history. There were fake news, misinformation, polarized clashes on social media, campaigns against ballot box trust, party federations and so many other points and questions put up for discussion in the national political scene. There were many, much less small, obstacles we faced in the last election. Now, as President of the Regional Electoral Court of Amapá, I realize that Electoral Justice has never been so challenged. For our management, there is no lack of willingness to face the important mission of guaranteeing the sovereignty of the will of the people”, highlighted the new president
Lages is from Belém/PA. Bachelor of Law from the Federal University of Pará since 1988. He specializes in Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure. University Professor of the Law Course at the Federal University of Amapá – UNIFAP. State Coordinator of the Brazilian Institute of Criminal Sciences – IBCCRIM. Founding member of the Amapaense Academy of Legal Letters.
Judge Carmo Antônio assumes the role of TRE-AP inspector for the second time, but has also assumed the presidency from 2007 to 2009.
In addition to TRE employees, authorities such as governor Clécio Luís, mayor of Macapá Antônio Furlan, senator Lucas Barreto and the president of the Legislative Assembly of Amapá (Alap), Alliny Serrão, participated in the inauguration ceremony.
