The mayor of Ananindeua, the second largest city in Pará, Doctor Daniel, decided to exchange the MDB for the PSB. With this, Governor Helder Barbalho (MDB) loses one of his main allies in the state.

Daniel will run for re-election this year and is mentioned as a possible competitor for the government of Pará in 2026, against a candidate supported by the governor, who will not be able to seek a new term.

He was elected in 2020 with 67% of the votes and support from Helder. “I respect Governor Helder’s work, I thank the president of the MDB in the state, Jader Filho, for his usual collaboration, and, now at PSB, I reaffirm my commitment to the continuity of our work in Ananindeua and permanent openness to dialogue”, he said the mayor to the Panel.

Behind the scenes, Daniel’s allies report a process of gradual distancing with the governor.

They complain that Helder began to retaliate against the mayor in recent weeks after Daniel did not accept an agreement to nominate his vice-president.

Among the points highlighted by people close to the mayor are the dismissal of state school directors in the city and requests from the governor for allies to leave municipal management and support another pre-candidate.

The best-voted federal deputy in Pará, Alessandra Haber, Daniel’s wife, will remain in the MDB for now.
