Amount was sent to an account of the lieutenant colonel in the foreign country
Brasilia DF) – Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, former head of the Assistance of Orders of the Presidency of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), transferred BRL 367,374.56 to a bank account in the United States on January 12 of this year, three days after the attack on the headquarters of the Three Powers, in Brasilia.
The amount was sent to Cid’s own account at BB Americas, the branch of the Brazilian financial institution abroad. The transfer was based on an exchange rate of approximately R$5.20, and the conversion resulted in a total of US$70,500.
The operation appears in an extract of the Banco do Brasil foreign exchange operation, obtained by the column. The document was sent to the CPI on January 8, which requested the breach of secrecy to the Central Bank, and to the Federal Police (PF) Accounting Expert Service.
Other financial records of the former aide-de-camp also indicate that Cid invested at least R$250,000 in fixed-income investments, through the CDB and CDI modalities, in a national account. The deposit was made by him on March 13, 2020 — before that, the balance was zero.
On April 30 of that year, after some withdrawals, the total amount dropped to R$135,500. Withdrawals became more frequent in the following months, and Cid reached May 2021 with zero application. In June 2021, he invested again, reaching a balance of R$ 30,000.
The bank records include transactions made between January 1, 2020 and July 31 of this year, at the request of the CPI. The documents arrive at the hands of the parliamentarians at a time when a new summoning of Cid before the collegiate is demanded.
As the column revealed this month, Cid entered into a procedure to send money abroad days before leaving Brazil alongside former president Jair Bolsonaro, in December 2022. The former president himself opened an account at an agency from Miami (USA) of BB Americas new days before leaving for the foreign country.
“I request the issuance of a payment order abroad, in the currency indicated or its equivalent in the beneficiary’s country, to be debited from my deposit account indicated below, as well as the respective fees, taxes and other expenses”,
affirmed the terms signed by the two.
Sought by the column, Banco do Brasil states, in a note, that it does not comment on financial movements of its clients or former clients. “Banco do Brasil and all companies in its conglomerate have strict protocols for monitoring the financial transactions of their customers and fully respect banking legislation and regulations in all countries where they operate”says the institution.
“Any indication of irregularity in financial transactions is promptly communicated to the regulatory bodies, whether in Brazil or abroad. In respect of bank secrecy, BB does not comment on specific financial movements of its clients or former clients”,
ends.
BB Americas is the same financial institution where Mauro Cid’s father, retired Army general Mauro Lourena Cid, is a customer.
Recently, Lourena Cid was the target of a search and seizure operation by the PF that investigates evidence that Bolsonaro would have used the structure of the federal government to embezzle jewelry and high-value gifts offered by foreign authorities.
