Marta-Boulos: Nunes’ allies predict traitor – 01/09/2024 – Power

Allies of Ricardo Nunes (MDB) and members of the pre-reelection campaign claim that Marta Suplicy’s betrayal of the mayor was evident and that the brand of traitor must fall on her, after the decision to leave the city hall to return to the PT and be vice-president of pre-candidate Guilherme Boulos (PSOL).

According to these interlocutors, Nunes considers her former ally to be a difficult person to trust, after learning that she organized the migration to the rival camp behind her back.

The two met this Tuesday (9) and stated, in different statements, that her departure from the Municipal Secretariat for International Relations was by mutual agreement.

Before the meeting, Nunes did not hide his disappointment in front of assistants, who described the mayor as very hurt. In the morning, he still resisted firing Marta, but changed his mind after learning from an ally that the agreement between her and Lula (PT) was advanced.

According to a member of the city council, Nunes also learned that Marta had already written a letter of resignation.

Emedebista’s pre-campaign strategists claim that he was right not to fire her as soon as rumors about her alliance with Boulos emerged because, thus, her own attitudes made it clear that she would be a traitor.

They recalled other episodes of disloyalty by the former mayor, such as when, breaking with the PT and joining the MDB, she voted in favor of Dilma Rousseff’s impeachment. As shown by SheetMarta has already called PT corrupt and Fernando Haddad (PT) the worst mayor in São Paulo.

He also recalled that Marta is a friend of his wife, Regina Carnovale Nunes, and that the former mayor did not hold a position in the city hall due to the recommendation of a party, but because of the friendship between them.

Aides demanded that she should have warned the mayor at least about the meeting with Lula, on Monday (8), something that Nunes would understand as it was an agenda with the President of the Republic. At the meeting, Marta told the president that she agreed to be Boulos’ deputy, but that she would need to talk to Nunes first.

However, even among supporters of her re-election, there are those who criticize the mayor for not having fired her sooner. The episode became ammunition for Bolsonaro opponents, who defend Ricardo Salles’ (PL) pre-candidacy.

“Worse than having Marta Suplicy in your first echelon is not having her because she didn’t want to! This is the pulse of the mayor who commands the largest city in Latin America! There’s no way around it, Ricardo is a good Ricardo Salles!”, published the deputy state Lucas Bove (PL) in the networks.

On the other hand, organizers of Nunes’ team consider that the development of the dispute ended up showing that there was a betrayal on her part and that Marta will be forced to explain herself.

They point out, however, two reasons why Marta would have difficulty justifying her turnaround. The first is the public criticism she has already made of Boulos and the PT.

Secondly, they claim that Marta was aware that Nunes would seek the support of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in her campaign and that she had understood the strategy of winning Bolsonaro votes to defeat Boulos.

In the resignation letter addressed to the mayor, the former mayor thanked her for her time as part of the administration, said that she will follow “paths consistent” with her trajectory and values, without going into details, and indirectly mentioned this year’s election.

“At this time when the political scenario of our city foreshadows a new situation, different from the one in which, in January 2021, I had the honor of being invited by Bruno Covas to take over the Municipal Secretariat for International Relations, I forward, on this date, in common agreement, my resignation from this position.”

The statement issued by the city hall to announce her departure states that Nunes called Marta “to clarify the information published in the press” and that her departure from the position was agreed upon by mutual agreement.
