Marqueteiro de Tarcísio says the moment is waiting – 7/9/2023 – Panel

With the declaration of ineligibility of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and the protagonism in the articulations on the tax reform, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos-SP) gained strength in the betting pool for the presidential election of 2026.

For the marketer Pablo Nobel, responsible for the victorious campaign of the governor of São Paulo in 2022, the best strategy for Tarcísio now is to “resist the siren song” and keep the focus on fulfilling his campaign promises for the state.

“Paulista likes the state, he doesn’t like to be used as a springboard, so this is something he has already said on another occasion that he needs to be careful”, says Nobel, who points out that in recent weeks he has not spoken with the former minister.

“The ball is bouncing in the area”, acknowledges Nobel, but his recommendation for Tarcísio is that he wait. Including, so that he can analyze the issues at stake over time.

The marketer lists the variables: how will the Lula (PT) government arrive in 2026? If the federal administration does well, inflation remains under control and the country grows, will it be worth it for Tarcísio to face it? Nobel emphasizes that Tarcísio is young (48 years old), has only been in office for six months and that an eight-year term, should he seek and win re-election, would provide him with favorable conditions to deliver “a great work”.

Among right-wing politicians, Tarcísio’s resistance to the presidential candidacy has been viewed with disbelief. For them, the governor will accept the mission ahead, if he starts to score well in polls and starts to suffer pressure from the electorate. According to Nobel, this “is the best that can happen”.

“There’s nothing better for a candidate than to be pushed by the people for the candidacy. And it has to happen six months before the elections. You have to deny, deny, until the pressure becomes so much that he says: ‘OK, since you want me so much, I’m not going to say no to the Brazilian people'”, he evaluates.
