Former Santos player, the Fortaleza Marinho striker published an open letter in which he apologizes for the way he celebrated his goal, the first in the 2-1 victory in the last round of the Brazilian Championship, on Wednesday, at Vila Belmiro. Santos ended up, for the first time, relegated to Series B of the Brazilian Championship.
Marinho put his finger to his mouth, asking the crowd for silence, and put his fingers in his ears. “I let my anger consume me, the insults I suffered throughout the game made me angry (sic)”, wrote Marinho.
“The reaction of a goal came from all the persecution and reactions of something that kept judging me as a mercenary, a strong name, used on those who renounced money and were denied a contract renewal. I sought new air, and I know that I left the best to every minute I was on the field. The celebration was just an outburst.”
The striker was Santos’ highlight in the 2020 Copa Libertadores runner-up campaign and left the club to play for Flamengo.
Marinho also criticized president Andres Rueda and ended his message by praising the club. “I just regret your pain. Life goes on, and Santos FC will continue to be giant!”
