Brasilia DF) – Senator Marcos do Val (Podemos-ES) testifies to the Federal Police (PF) about an alleged coup plot, this Wednesday afternoon (19). He arrived at the PF headquarters, in Brasília, at 1:09 pm.

In February, through his social networks, Do Val denounced the alleged coup plot involving the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes and former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

On June 15, the PF carried out an operation at addresses linked to Do Val and at the Federal Senate. The operation was authorized by Moraes, who also determined that the senator should testify.

In the operation, computers, pen drives and a cell phone were seized.

The investigation was opened by order of Moraes in February, after the minister stated that Do Val had presented divergent versions of the facts in interviews and in a previous statement to the PF.

In February of this year, Marcos do Val accused former president Jair Bolsonaro and former deputy Daniel Silveira (PTB-RJ) of organizing a meeting, at the end of last year, to propose the senator’s involvement in a coup plan State.

The senator said, at the time, that the proposal was to record a conversation between him and Moraes, who also presides over the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), so that the minister would say that he would be extrapolating constitutional limits.

With such a recording in hand, according to Do Val, allies of the former president would request the arrest of Moraes and the annulment of the victory of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

He denied, after the PF operation, that he had told more than one version of the case. The senator’s accounts on social networks were blocked by determination of the STF.

Among the crimes in which he can be framed, according to the investigations, is that of disclosing confidential information that could cause harm to other people.

Jair Bolsonaro explained during his testimony to the PF, on July 12, that he met with Do Val knowing that they would talk about Minister Alexandre de Moraes.

According to Bolsonaro, the meeting with Do Val and Silveira took place on December 8, 2022, at Palácio da Alvorada, for about 20 minutes. When requesting the meeting, the former deputy said that the senator also wanted to address something about Moraes, but that no details were advanced.

The former chief executive’s defense emphasized during the hearing that no private audience had ever taken place with Do Val. Lawyers also clarified that the two did not have any kind of personal relationship.

Bolsonaro explained that the possibility of participation by the military or members of the Institutional Security Office (GSI) at the time was not raised.

Still according to the former president, nothing was said about Moraes, citing that he always remained within the four lines of the Constitution.
