Marcos do Val says he will ask for Moraes to be removed from the investigation report

Senator Marcos do Val (Podemos-ES) said this Friday (3) that he will ask for the removal of the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes from the rapporteurship of the inquiry into anti-democratic acts. According to the parliamentarian, the minister did not guide him to formalize his testimony about the meeting with former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and Daniel Silveira (PTB-RJ) in which they would have discussed an alleged coup d’état plan.

Do Val gave different versions of the episode. “I inform you that the recent statements by Minister Moraes are not true when he says that he advised me that the information from the meeting with Silveira and Bolsonaro was formalized”, said the senator in an interview with CNN Brasil.

The parliamentarian stated that he will activate the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) to remove Moraes from the rapporteurship of the inquiry into democratic acts. “I will be making a request to the PGR to remove Minister Moraes from the rapporteurship of anti-democratic acts”, he said.

After giving testimony, the senator said he will ask the Federal Police to include messages exchanged with Moraes and Silveira in the investigation. “Like him [o ministro] will enter the records, he will no longer be able to be a rapporteur”, he said.

Earlier, the magistrate classified the plot as a “tabajara operation” and stated that Do Val did not want to formalize a complaint. “I asked the senator if he would reaffirm that and put it on paper, that I would immediately take his statement. The senator told me that this was a question of intelligence and that unfortunately he could not confirm it”, said Moraes during a virtual participation in the Lide conference in Lisbon.

Do Val says he exceeded himself in an interview: “I did a glamor”

During the interview with CNN, the senator said that he overdid himself in his statements to the Veja reporter and that he made “a glamour” about the episode. Leonardo Caldas Vargas, author of the Veja article about the meeting, is a former employee of Marcos do Val’s communication team.

“Leonardo was a trustworthy person, he worked here and wanted a leading role when he arrived at Veja magazine. I did a glamor to be able to say what is undeniable, which is the presence of President Bolsonaro and Daniel Silveira”, he said. “I recognize that I shouldn’t have crossed that line,” he added.

In the early hours of Thursday (2), the senator said that Bolsonaro coerced him into participating in an alleged coup d’état plan. “You expect me to drop a bomb. Friday [dia 3] will leave in [revista] See Bolsonaro’s attempt to coerce me so that I could carry out a coup d’état with him, just so you can have an idea. And of course I reported it”, said Marcos do Val in a live on social networks.

After the repercussion of the statement, he backed down and said that the former president would have remained silent during the meeting. Do Val claims, in the most recent version of the facts, that Daniel Silveira would have incited the coup plot. “At a time when you are emotionally out of control, you say things you don’t want to say”, said Marcos do Val about the early morning live.
