Senator Marcos do Val (Podemos-ES) admitted this Thursday (30) that he forged the story about the attempted coup d’état to try to remove STF (Supreme Federal Court) Minister Alexandre de Moraes from the investigation against the former president. President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
“There was no coup d’état or anything. He said: ‘Bolsonaro, I’m going to use that meeting to take action to avenge you because he [Moraes] want to arrest you'”, said the senator to supporters in a video recorded by the Metrópoles portal.
“As he is the rapporteur of the anti-democratic act, when I put him into the process, he cannot continue to be the rapporteur. It has to be someone else”, he continued.
In February, the senator gave different versions about the meeting with Bolsonaro and the alleged plan to record the Supreme Minister to reverse the result of the 2022 elections.
First, he made a live broadcast on social networks in which he stated that Bolsonaro tried to coerce him to “take a coup d’état together with him”.
Hours later, the senator withdrew from the direct accusation and said that Bolsonaro “only heard” the plan of former federal deputy Daniel Silveira and said he would think about it. Hours later, he retreated from the direct accusation and said that Bolsonaro “only heard” the plan of former federal deputy Daniel Silveira and said he would think about it.
The idea was to record a conversation with Moraes, in an attempt to capture something compromising that could invalidate the election result.
At the time, Moraes claimed the reported plot was a “Tabajara attempt” at a coup.
The senator said he would resign from office, but changed his version several times.
Marcos do Val is investigated for the crimes of false testimony and slanderous denunciation. Moraes himself asked for the verification after the conflicting statements.
