Marcos do Val gives new testimony to the PF – 07/19/2023 – Power

Senator Marcos do Val (Podemos-ES) gave a new statement this Wednesday (19) to the PF (Federal Police) about the alleged plan against the minister of the STF (Federal Supreme Court) Alexandre de Moraes.

The parliamentarian was heard about the case for the second time and spent more than five hours at the PF headquarters, in Brasília. Do Val arrived at the venue at 1:10 pm, and left around 6:40 pm without speaking to the press.

The investigation against the senator was opened after he made a live transmission over the internet in which he said that Veja magazine would publish a report showing that former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) tried to coerce him to “take a coup d’état together with him” and record the minister of the STF.

Hours later, the senator withdrew from the direct accusation and said that Bolsonaro “only heard” the plan of former federal deputy Daniel Silveira (PTB-RJ).

In one of his versions, Do Val said he exposed Bolsonaro’s coup proposal to Moraes. According to him, the idea was to compromise the magistrate and force him to step aside from ongoing investigations. The parliamentarian also raised the possibility of annulling the elections and preventing Lula’s (PT) inauguration.

Former president Bolsonaro testified to the PF about the case on Wednesday (12) last week. He confirmed the meeting with Do Val and Silveira in December, but denied that he had participated in the alleged plan to record Moraes.

“Nothing has been handled [na reunião], there was no plan, at that approximately 20-minute meeting, for anyone to record Minister Alexandre de Moraes. Why would I articulate anything with the senator? What was the meeting about? Nothing,” Bolsonaro told journalists after the statement.

Last week, the former president admitted to the Mônica Bergamo column that he had participated in the meeting, but stated that he was just watching.

Do Val has been away from the parliamentary mandate for almost a month on medical advice. He fell ill on June 20 and, according to his advisory, was advised to “immediately” leave his activities to “take care of his health”.

Days before, the senator had been the target of a search and seizure operation by the PF at addresses in Brasília and Vitória (ES), in addition to the Senate office. He also had his social networks blocked by order of Moraes.
