The journalist and editor of Ilustríssima, Marcos Augusto Gonçalves, 67, will write a weekly column in the Politics section of the Sheet on Thursdays in the online version and on Fridays in the printed edition.
The debut of the new weekly column will be this Thursday (28).
Gonçalves was born in 1956, in Rio de Janeiro. He graduated in literature from PUC (Pontifical Catholic University) in the state and has a master’s degree in communication from UFRJ (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro).
Joined the Sheet in 1984, as assistant editor of Ilustrada. He performed several other roles at the newspaper, as editor of the same section, Domingo and Mais!, in addition to being a correspondent in Italy and the United States.
In the late 1990s, he left the newspaper to become editorial director of the sports daily Lance!. He returned in 2003 as editor of Opinião. He has edited Ilustríssima since 2019.
He released the book “1922 – A Semana que não Terminou” (Companhia das Letras, 2012), as well as “Cultura e Participação nos Anos 60” (Editora Brasiliense, 1980), with Heloisa Teixeira, and “Pós-tudo – 50 Anos of Culture in Ilustrada” (Publifolha, 2008).
The journalist said that he intends to critically analyze issues about the exercise of power, in addition to the facts already covered by the newspaper. According to him, the challenge is “to deal with topics that are of interest and help us think amidst the cacophony of digital media and the din of political polarization.”
“Although the column is under the umbrella of the Politics editorial department, my tendency is to avoid what I could call palatial retail, which is already well treated by the news and by analysts in the area. I intend to write critically and independently on a variety of subjects that are related to public debate.”
Gonçalves will take the place of Reinaldo Azevedo, who leaves the list of columnists for Sheet.
