Three fans were arrested after a disturbance during the match between Fluminense and Argentinos Juniors, at Maracanã, on Tuesday night (8). Fluminense won 2-0 and qualified for the quarterfinals of the Libertadores.
According to the Military Police, there was widespread confusion among the visiting crowd, located in the upper north sector of the stadium.
Initially, Maracanã security guards intervened and one of the professionals was attacked. Then, teams from Bepe (Specialized Police Battalion in Stadiums) intervened and a female police officer was also attacked.
“It was necessary to use weapons of lesser lethal potential to stabilize the place”, says a note from the Military Police.
According to the police, two Argentine fans were detained and taken to the Special Court for Supporters and Major Events. During the melee, an Argentine fan was arrested red-handed for the crime of racism against a police officer.
Video circulating on social media shows police officers hitting Argentine fans involved in the melee with clubs.
There is no official information on injuries.
In another case, a fan was arrested after assaulting an employee at one of the Maracanã bars, in the east sector.
Fluminense will face, in the quarterfinals, the winner of the game between Olímpia and Flamengo, who face each other on Thursday (10), in Asunción.
