Manaus (AM) – The 32nd edition of the Creche Zezé Pio de Souza Scientific-Cultural Fair takes place this Friday (10), from 8am to 11am, in Manaus. The event is open to the public and will take place at the institution’s headquarters, on Rua Estrela Rajada, 1170, in the Redenção neighborhood. The theme of this year’s fair is Love and Environment.
The daycare director, teacher Nelly Falcão, informs that the entire community of Redenção and the surrounding area is invited to visit the fair and see the work of the little ones up close. “They are very excited about the event,” she comments.
A total of seven projects will be presented: Talent in Education: Success story of teacher Nelly Falcão de Souza, Sonho de Reciclandra, Vegetables, Medicinal Plants, Fruit Project and its benefits, Nelly Falcão, Ensuring the Capricho of Regional Culture, and Reuse of Food .
More than 120 children, aged 2 to 5, will participate in the exhibition, which aims to promote socialization, develop curiosity and environmental awareness even in the early stages of school life.
“The institution’s Scientific-Cultural Fair contributes to awakening children’s interest in science and this year it presents the knowledge passed on by Professor Nelly in the Cultural and Environmental sphere”,
informed the pedagogical coordinator of Creche Zezé Pio de Souza, Graça Cardoso.
Beyond literacy
Creche Zezé Pio de Souza has more than 30 years of history and has already contributed to 1,240 children becoming literate, not only in the literacy process, but also in the formation of habits, attitudes, sociability, creativity and affection.
The institution was born through the realization of a dream of professor and ecologist Martha Falcão (died in 2016), who always wanted to have a daycare center that welcomed socially vulnerable children.
“My mother was very involved in the daycare, she was here every day, playing and telling stories to the children. In fact, she went around the neighborhood looking for children to bring to study at the daycare center,”
comments Professor Nelly, who is also director of the Pinocchio Centro Educacional and Colégio Martha Falcão.
The daycare infrastructure includes seven air-conditioned classrooms, a playroom, cafeteria, kitchen, reading corner, playground and adapted bathrooms. The institution’s teachers are part of the Municipal Department of Education (Semed), through an agreement renewed annually.
The other professionals, including assistants, social worker, psychologist and janitor, and the children’s school supplies are paid for by the Geraldo Pio de Souza Foundation. The only cost for students’ families is school uniforms.
Therefore, to study at daycare, financial status and living in the neighborhood are prerequisites. “The children enter at 7am, do educational activities, play, eat meals and leave at 5pm”, says the daycare director, Nelly Falcão de Souza.
