Proposal is to sensitize everyone to promote school sustainability

Manaus (AM) – With the theme “Water, as long as it exists, life will remain”, the municipal school Ana Mota Braga, from the Manaus City Hall, held, this Wednesday, 6/21, the 2nd Scientific Environmental Exhibition. The teaching unit, managed by the Municipal Department of Education (Semed), in the Petrópolis neighborhood, in the South zone, had the participation of students, teachers, pedagogical advisors from the Educational Technology Management (GTE) and guests.

The Federal University of Amazonas (Ufam), the National Institute for Research in the Amazon (Inpa) and the State University of Amazonas (UEA) participated in the exhibition. The school’s proposal is to sensitize everyone to transform individual attitudes and commitment into collective actions, to promote school sustainability.

“We have sought, over the last few years, to raise awareness and, above all, environmental responsibility, as many students live close to streams and when it rains they are completely harmed. Therefore, the environmental issue is very strong in our pedagogical actions. Today, this exhibition is the result of projects developed by our students and teachers”,

commented the unit manager, Jamiles Gomes.

Throughout the day, the 744 students enrolled at the school presented their projects and also visited spaces with stingless bee exhibits, a museum of cold-blooded animals, ichthyological (fisheries engineering) and entomological exhibitions. In addition, thematic spaces were made available with corners of medicinal plants, an ornamental lake, a primate space, environmental awareness and stands with various themes.

From this exhibition, a winning work will emerge, which will represent the school in the Zonal District Division (DDZ) stage of Semed, until reaching the final stage, in the Science Fair of the education network.

The 7th grade students presented the project “Fonte Energética Eólica”. According to Roberto Sobrinho, 12 years old, working on the theme made him understand the importance of developing clean energy, such as wind energy.

“There are still many places that live in darkness and if we developed wind energy, this problem could end, because energy would be obtained by wind and the environment would be preserved”,

explained the student.

University students of Biology from UEA developed the project “Cantinho das medicinal plants suspended”, which had the help of the students of the 8th year of the school.

“In our region it is very common to use medicinal plants for any illness or discomfort. In most houses there is always a seedling of some kind of medicinal plant and we brought to the school the possibility for the student to know the various species and even cultivate them at home. They participated in all processes to awaken interest in the plantation,”

said university student Vinícius Medeiros.

Science fair

This is the first stage of the show, which will define the winner in the Elementary School 2 category. The next stage brings together the winners of the Zonal District Divisions (DDZs), until reaching the final stage, with the Semed Science Fair, in November this year.

“In all schools of the municipal network, Scientific Exhibitions are already held, to choose the winners in the categories of early childhood education, elementary school 1 and 2, special education, Youth and Adult Education (EJA) and Indigenous. After this phase, the dispute in the DDZs begins, so that we can also choose the winners and close the participants of the Semed Science Fair. All these stages are extremely important, because they allow all students to live a scientific experience”,
