The city of Macapá promotes on Saturday (4) the traditional futlama competition, one of the most unique sports in the state as it takes place according to the ebb and flow of the tide on the Amazon River. The tournament, which will be special for Macapá’s 265th anniversary, opens registration for the participation of 16 teams. The games will take place from 8 am, on the edge of Santa Inês.
Entries have already started by calling (96) 99911-6361, from the Amapaense Futlama Federation (Feafla). Team members must be aged 15 and over. Vacancies will be opened for the participation of 16 teams, male and female, in the dispute for the award.
First place will receive R$500 reais, trophies and medals and second place will receive R$300 reais, trophies and medals. “With the support of the Municipality of Macapá and Comel, we were able to bring people from different communities to participate in the tournament and this is something that fills us with pride and happiness”, commented Mário Frota, president of the Amapaense Futlama Federation (Feafla).
The history of Futlama begins when friends from different neighborhoods of Macapá got together to play soccer on the riverbank, taking advantage of the low tide, in the 90’s, thus starting one of the most popular practices in the state.
