Lula’s minister defends use of uniform by Mauro Cid at CPMI and the Armed Forces

The Minister of Defense in the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), José Múcio Monteiro, defended the use of the military uniform by Mauro Cid during the testimony to the CPMI of the acts of January 8, this Tuesday (11), in Congress, and the Armed Forces for claims that they were interested in a coup d’état.
The use of the uniform by the former aide of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) was seen by analysts as an “affront” to the military, which Múcio denied.
“Not the slightest problem. He is an official, he has the right to wear a uniform. He is even arrested, wearing military clothes, he doesn’t even have civilian clothes. [Essa foi] the information I had”, said the minister in an interview with the newspaper Folha de São Paulo published this Wednesday (12).
The Army stated that Cid “was instructed by the Army Command to appear in uniform on the understanding that the active-duty military was summoned to address issues related to the function for which he was designated by the Force.”
Múcio also stated that he is waiting for a verdict from the CPMI on the participation of military personnel in the acts of January 8, but exempted the Command from any blame. According to him, there were two factions of the Army coexisting in the camp set up in front of the Headquarters, in Brasília, of “legalists” and “indignants”.
“There were two factions of the Army living together in that camp. But the Armed Forces were not interested in a coup. In a football game, a player commits indiscipline, you throw him out of the game. The team continues ”, he analyzes.
However, according to CPMI testimony from the then Chief of the Operational Department of the Military Police of the Federal District, Jorge Eduardo Naime, the Army leadership prevented the DF government from dismantling the camp in front of the HQ.
The minister also said that Defense is willing to collaborate with the commission’s investigations so that “this comes to an end, it’s good for everyone.”
