Lula’s leader defends space for the PL on the Senate Board – 02/01/2023 – Panel

The leader of the government in the Senate, Jaques Wagner (PT-BA), defended this Wednesday (31) the offer of positions in the Board of Directors for the PL, the party of the defeated candidate for the presidency of the House, Rogério Marinho (RN). According to him, it is important to resume the criterion of proportionality for the distribution of spaces both in the command of the House and in the thematic commissions.
The Constitution, in Article 58, determines that the proportional representation of the parties or parliamentary blocs will be ensured in the distribution of spaces “as much as possible”.
In Wagner’s assessment, the constituent included a caveat to avoid problems when there were no committees for all parties. It is used, however, to justify political criteria in choosing senators.
Pacheco’s allies have been saying that the PL should be removed from the main positions after the aggressive campaign in favor of Rogério Marinho.
But revising the agreement for the distribution of spaces could also be strategic for the PT. In the negotiations, Pacheco committed to handing over the 1st Secretariat to Senator Rogério Carvalho (PT-SE), but left PT out of the main thematic commissions.
The CCJ (Constitution and Justice) should be commanded by Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), the CAE (Economic Affairs) by Otto Alencar (PSD-BA) and the CRE (External Relations) by Renan Calheiros (MDB-AL).
The president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), 46, defeated Bolsonaro’s former minister Rogério Marinho (PL-RN) and was re-elected this Wednesday (1st) for another two years in office.
The winner obtained 49 votes against 32 of the opponent.
The result of the election in the House represents a second defeat for Bolsonarism and gives another demonstration of strength by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) a month after the beginning of his term.
