Lula’s government may spend up to BRL 2 billion on hiring in 2023; listen to podcast

After a reduction of almost 12% in the federal civil service during the term of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), a series of new contests promoted by the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) should increase again and swell the public machine because of spending on servers. The last announcement was made this week by the Minister of Management and Innovation in Public Services, Esther Dweck, and foresees the opening of more than three thousand new vacancies, of which 2,480 will be filled through public tenders.

With this announcement, the total number of new effective posts in the federal public service should reach 8,360 in 2023. In addition, another 8,141 people will be temporarily hired through a simplified selection process to meet the demands of the Demographic Census of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), as already authorized and announced in May.

Differently, in the Bolsonaro administration, the reduction of personnel took place on the grounds that the digitization of processes allowed the downsizing of the staff without prejudice to the quality of public services. They are completely different views.
