Lula’s decision on the TSE increases pressure for women – 05/25/2023 – Panel

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s (PT) decision to nominate two men for the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) should increase pressure for a female choice for the next nominations.
One of the strongest names is that of lawyer Gabriela Araújo, for a vacancy as a substitute minister in the court. She is deputy coordinator of the legal group Prerogativas, aligned with the government.
Another effect of Lula’s choice, which frustrated supporters of at least one vacancy being female, is to increase the pressure for nominations of women to the Superior Court of Justice and, above all, to the Federal Supreme Court.
On the supreme court, the next vacancy to open is for a woman, the current president, Rosa Weber.
