Lula will link Armed Forces to democracy on September 7 – 08/28/2023 – Power

The government of President Lula (PT) will use its first ceremony on September 7 to convey a message of national unity, seeking to reverse the partisanship of the date and the Armed Forces, which marked the years of Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

The slogan will be democracy, sovereignty and unity. The colors green and yellow will be used in an attempt to show that they were not captured by Bolsonarism. This week, the Esplanada is already being taken over by bleachers and stages, in addition to banners with the colors of the flag.

With the slogan, the government seeks to associate the three Forces with the concept of democracy, highlighting the theme in an event essentially marked by militarization. The Amazon will be highlighted, and the theme of preservation will be used as a demonstration of sovereignty.

The idea of ​​government members participating in the organization is to create a new concept for the holiday, but emphasizing a more institutional message, without character of partisan dispute.

The event will take place nine months after January 8th and amid advances in investigations that point to the participation of Forces officers and police officers in coup plots. Military personnel are in the direct sights of Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF, with some of his representatives in the Bolsonaro government arrested or investigated.

Last year, the parade was used as a campaign act by Bolsonaro, then candidate for re-election, who, right after the parade on the Esplanada, gave a speech on a stage next to the event.

The government’s plan now is to make an exhibition on the Esplanada during the week of September 7, with the sectors that stand out in relation to sovereignty: power of the Armed Forces, science and technology, and the Amazon. The stands will also have presentations, according to reports.

The Lula government has been trying to expand the rapprochement with the military, after the distrust generated in the first months of government. The president has so far honored the three Forces, with participation in lunches with commanders, ceremonies and with resources.

The New PAC, which was launched in the second week of August, provides for an exclusive investment axis for the military’s strategic projects.

Lula is expected to make a statement on the night of the 6th, on the eve of the military parades on Independence Day. The petista used this expedient in several commemorations of the 7th of September of his first two mandates.

This year, the parade in Brasilia will have the participation of Lula and other authorities, as usual, but it will be shorter – the expected duration is two hours. The assessment is that the celebration was too long, tiring and that there is no need for as many bodies involved as before.

The government does not intend to include personalities on the platforms, as happened with Bolsonaro. There is also no forecast of the presence of heads of state.

In some years of their previous mandates, presidents of other countries went to Brasília on this date, such as the Frenchman Nicolas Sarkozy (2009) and the Argentinean Cristina Kirchner (2008).

After participating in the celebrations, Lula will travel to India, where he will participate in the G20 meetings, on September 9 and 10.

As shown to Sheet, the Federal Police will not participate this time, as well as other sectors. The corporation, however, did not object to the decision. According to members of the government, the entire celebration has been organized in line with members of the three forces.

At the Planalto Palace, there is no fear about the possibility of demonstrations, although the Army and the Secretariat of Public Security of the Federal District are monitoring Bolsonarists who plan to hold protests against President Lula during the parade.

The evaluation of the intelligence of the military is that supporters of the former president have been divided between two groups: one that supports the trip to the parade, in Brasília, to boo Lula and the Armed Forces, and another that considers it more appropriate to empty the event, as a message that the petista does not have popular support like his predecessor did.

According to reports by military personnel and members of the Security Sheetno major leader of Bolsonarism has manifested itself publicly or in message groups monitored in favor of the protest against the PT.

Aides to the president minimize the possibility of boos or contrary acts. The assessment is that there is no chance of a repeat of January 8th, or anything close to it.
