Minister Alexandre Padilha (Institutional Relations) said this Tuesday (28) that President Lula (PT) determined that Flávio Dino will continue to lead the Ministry of Justice until his hearing in the Senate and that he will choose a successor only after his travels.
Lula nominated Dino for the position of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), before leaving for a tour of the Middle East to Dubai, where he will participate in COP28.
Then, upon returning to the country, he will go to Rio de Janeiro for the Mercosur summit on December 7th. The definition of the command of Justice would only come later. Dino’s hearing at the CCJ (Constitution and Justice Commission) will be on December 13th.
“Certainly, the definition of the Ministry of Justice will happen after these international missions,” he told journalists, after participating in an FNP (National Front of Mayors) event in Brasília.
“[O presidente] He reinforced to Flávio Dino that at least during an international mission he would remain at the Ministry of Justice playing”, he stated.
Padilha also said that there is still no discussion about dismembering the Justice and Public Security department, as some allies and members of Congress argue.
“The President did not give further details about any definition of the future of the Ministry of Justice, he did not open a discussion, as Flávio Dino is still participating in the Senate hearing”, he added.
The appointment to the STF occurred on the same day that Lula also announced his choice for the PGR (Attorney General’s Office), with Paulo Gonet. His decision came after two months of waiting by allies and a process of approval in the Senate.
After the government’s difficulties in important votes in the Senate and amid strong resistance from part of the opposition against Dino, Lula had a series of meetings to hammer out and align with members of the Senate the approval of the minister and Gonet — who, in the view of members of the Executive and congressmen, should obtain, without any fear, a majority of votes.
Dino’s hearing at the CCJ (Constitution and Justice Commission) has already been scheduled for December 13th, and senator Weverton Rocha (PDT-MA) has been appointed as rapporteur.
The president of the commission, Davi Alcolumbre (União Brasil-AP), informed that Gonet’s nomination will be reported by Jaques Wagner (PT-BA) and that the hearing will also be on December 13th.
