Lula voter who killed after discussion is arrested in MT – 03/21/2023 – Power

The Civil Police of Mato Grosso arrested Edno de Abadia Borges, 60, suspected of shooting Valter Fernando da Silva, 36, on Sunday (19). He must undergo a custody hearing this Wednesday (22).

According to the police, the victim supported former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and the suspect is a voter of Lula (PT). Irani da Silva, the victim’s mother, said that Edno and Valter were friends. At UOL, she said she was informed about her son’s death in the early hours of Monday (20).

Both were in a bar in the Celma district, in the rural area of ​​Jaciara, a municipality located 144 km from Cuiabá. According to investigations by the Civil and Military Police, witnesses reported that the two were drinking and started an argument for political reasons.

The bar owner said he heard the shots after the argument and ran to the scene, but found Silva on the floor. When the police arrived at the scene, the Bolsonarist was already dead. The victim was hit by at least two shots in the abdomen area.

During the search, the suspect’s car was found 10 km from the crime scene.

The Civil Police does not work with the hypothesis of political crime. “There is no way to classify the crime as political. What happened was a qualified crime for a futile reason, which was political or ideological divergence”, said police chief José Ramon Leite to UOL.

“The suspect, accompanied by his lawyer, surrendered and was arrested as we had represented the Judiciary for preventive detention, which was granted. Therefore, Edno de Abadia Borges is being held”, added the delegate.

Edno has no record of possession or possession of a firearm. The victim and the suspect also had no criminal passages. “They had such close contact that once Edno came to help Valter, who was feeling sick”, said the delegate investigating the case.

At UOL, Lula’s advisory said they regretted what happened. “The president has already said — and reiterates — that there is no justification for political violence, and that differences must be respected and resolved through dialogue. Never with gunshots.”

Another case of political intolerance occurred in September 2022. A man, identified as 42-year-old Benedito Cardoso dos Santos, was murdered with a knife and ax, during a discussion on political issues. He was a supporter of the then candidate for the Presidency of the Republic by the PT.

The author of the crime, Rafael Silva de Oliveira, 24, was a supporter of Bolsonaro. He was identified by the authorities when he went to get help at a health unit because of a cut on his hand. From the hospital, Rafael was taken to the police station, where he was arrested and confessed to the crime for “political motivation”.
