Former President Michel Temer (MDB) hit back this Wednesday afternoon (25) President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva after being called a “coup leader” by him. In a note published in social networksthe emedebist said that the petista “insists on keeping his feet on the platform and his eyes in the rearview mirror” and tries to “rewrite history through ideological narratives”.

Earlier, Lula met with Uruguayan President Luis Alberto Lacalle Pou and stated that “almost everything we did for social benefit in my country, in 13 years of government, was destroyed in six years. Or rather, in seven years. Three from the coup leader Michel Temer and four from the Bolsonaro government”.

“Contrary to what he [Lula] said today at an international event, the country was not the victim of any coup. The penalty provided for those who violate the Constitution was actually applied”, countered Temer. The former president even mocked Lula’s statement.

“And about him saying that I destroyed PT initiatives in just two and a half years of government, it’s true: I destroyed a negative 5% GDP to a positive 1.8%; double-digit inflation to 2.75%; interest from 14.25 to 6.5%; drop in unemployment over time from 13% to 8% thanks to labor reform; recovery of Petrobras and other state-owned companies thanks to the State-Owned Companies Law; I destroyed the Stock Exchange which grew from 45,000 points to 85,000 points,” he said.

“As you can see, with our arrival in the government, Brazil did not suffer an institutional coup, but was the ‘victim’ of a Lucky Coup. I recommend that President Lula govern looking forward, defending the truth, practicing harmony and preaching peace”, concluded the emedebista.
