Lula tries to preserve anti-bolsonarism as a political force – 07/15/2023 – Bruno Boghossian

In recent weeks, Lula has called Jair Bolsonaro a cunt, a gangster, a genocide, a scammer, insane and other insults. A few days ago, the petista went to the UNE congress and said that the four years of his predecessor were a sample of fascism and Nazism.

Lula walks around with an image of the former president in his pocket. The PT maintains artillery against Bolsonaro on platforms, official events and interviews. He criticizes audiences willing to join in, such as students and members of the MST, and tries to salt land around foreign businessmen and government officials.

Bolsonaro is out of the next elections, but Lula wants to preserve anti-bolsonarism as a force and measure its effects in the next cycle.

Rejecting Bolsonaro helped Lula achieve a majority in 2022. Defeating the captain and blocking the coup dream renewed the breath of left-wing militancy, attracted voters far from the PT and forged a broad network in defense of democracy.

The intensity of anti-bolsonarism was proportional to the threat that the then president represented. The pointer moves with the passage of time, the ineligibility determined by the TSE and the right plans.

No one should need Lula’s help to judge Bolsonaro, but the petista reacts to a natural decantation process. Datafolha showed in June that 57% of Brazilians believe that the former president’s government brought benefits to the country (half of the poorest and 64% of Brazilians in the middle income range think so).

In addition to refreshing the voter’s memory, Lula wants to test the ability to transfer Bolsonaro’s rejection to his godchildren. In a government ceremony at the beginning of the month, the president urged the completion of a work and warned of the risk of “another bad thing coming back” after the end of his term.

Even with ineligibility, antibolsonarism is inevitable because the right depends on Bolsonaro on the scene. In addition to the captain’s memory, his reach will also be determined by Lula’s performance.
