Lula talks about bringing the Women’s World Cup to Brazil – 7/1/2023 – Sport

President Lula (PT) said this Saturday (1st) that he hoped that women’s football would be as popular as men’s and promised to work so that Brazil could host a women’s football World Cup.

The statements were made during training in Brasília for the Brazilian women’s team, which is preparing for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, starting on the 20th.

Training was at the Mané Garrincha stadium. The players and coach Pia Sundhage waited for Lula in profile on the lawn.

The president said that, for women’s football to be as popular as men’s, as happened with volleyball, it is necessary to make investments in the category.

“I dream that one day women’s football can fill stadiums like men’s football. It’s a job of politicizing society, of spreading awareness, a work of convincing”, she told the players.

Lula also defended that Brazil host an edition of the Women’s World Cup and said that there is no evidence of corruption in the construction of the soccer stadiums for the 2014 Cup. 2013.

“In 2014 I was frustrated, because we managed to bring the World Cup here to Brazil and in 2013 it was hell in that country, and the World Cup was trivialized. Not even the sponsors advertised the World Cup correctly, it was the World Cup World made in a very negative climate”, said Lula.

“Everything was said that there was corruption in the stadiums, and corruption was not proven in any stadium. It’s been ten years since the World Cup took place, and in no stadium was corruption proven. But the accusations happened.”

Accompanying Lula were ministers Ana Moser (Sport), Anielle Franco (Racial Equality), Cida Gonçalves (Women), Márcio Macedo (General Secretariat) and Paulo Pimenta (Secom), in addition to the first lady, Janja, and the president of the CBF ( Brazilian Football Confederation), Ednaldo Rodrigues.

The Minister of Sports, Ana Moser, also stated that the government will sanction the Bolsa Atleta law for pregnant women next week and defended that an optional point be made on match days for the women’s team during the World Cup.

The president greeted all the athletes, ending the greeting with the former best in the world, Marta. Lula and Janja were presented with T-shirts from the Brazilian team, a green and yellow one and also a black one with the name Vini Jr. on the back.

The black uniform was made in a campaign against racism, created after the Brazilian Real Madrid player suffered a series of offenses in Spain.
