Lula supporter kills Bolsonarist in MT, says police – 03/20/2023 – Politics

A man defending former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) was killed this Sunday (19) by a supporter of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) after political differences in Jaciara (144 km from Cuiabá), according to the police.

The crime suspect, identified as Edno de Abadia Borges, fled and is still being sought by the Military Police of Mato Grosso. Until this Monday (20), no lawyer had presented himself to the police for his defense.

Borges and the victim, Valter Fernando da Silva, 36, were in a bar in the district of Celma, in the rural area of ​​the municipality. According to investigations by the Civil and Military Police, witnesses reported that the two were drinking and started an argument for political reasons – Borges defended Lula and Silva, Bolsonaro.

The bar owner said he heard the shots after the argument and ran to the scene, but found Silva on the floor.

When the police arrived at the scene, the Bolsonarist was already dead. During the search, the suspect’s car was found 10 kilometers from the crime scene.

The case will not be classified as a political crime, according to police chief José Ramon Leite. “There is no way to classify the crime as political because, as far as we know, there is no motivation of this type. What happened was a qualified crime for a futile reason, which was political or ideological divergence”, he said.

According to the delegate, an arrest warrant against Borges will be made later this Monday. “We have opened the inquiry and are finishing the steps. We have already identified the person who fired the shots, we are listening to witnesses and we should ask for his arrest today, in case the flagrante delicto is not carried out”, he added.

The crime scene and the car located have already passed expertise.

This is the second crime of its kind in the state with major repercussions. Last year, in Confresa (1,160 km from Cuiabá), a Bolsonaro supporter murdered another man who defended Lula with stab wounds. According to police, the author tried to decapitate the victim and, after the crime, still filmed the body.
