President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said in a meeting this Wednesday (14) with representatives of the retail sector that state governments could forgive small debts in tariffs such as water and electricity, as part of an effort so that indebted people can clear their names.
He mentioned this when talking about Desenrola, a Ministry of Finance program for Brazilians to settle their debts, by reducing interest rates and granting discounts on the total amount owed.
Launched last week, Desenrola is one of the main measures in the economic area launched by the federal government, with the goal of benefiting 70 million people.
At the meeting, Lula also asked retailers to commit themselves to help in the approval of the tax reform, which should be sent to Congress in the coming months.
