Lula cried in a meeting with minister, says Waguinho – 06/14/2023 – Politics

The mayor of Belford Roxo, Waguinho (Republicans), said this Wednesday (14) that there will be no hurt or rancor on the part of his family towards President Lula (PT) in the face of the eventual resignation of his wife, the Minister of Tourism, Daniela Carneiro.

Waguinho also added that Lula and Daniela cried during a meeting on Tuesday (13), in which their political situation was discussed. The minister was temporarily kept in office, but there is pressure for her to be fired in the coming days.

“[Lula se emocionou] The moment I said ‘Daniela, you are my quota, you are my minister, I don’t want you to leave’. When he spoke those words the two of them cried. [Mas] There is this partisan impasse, and we will wait, that’s what he said,” he said.

“And Daniela said: ‘President, I will never be an obstacle for you. If you need me, I’m here to do whatever you ask. If it’s to leave, I’ll thank you, and you give me the mission that you want, and I will carry out this mission’. Not bad weather, we are at war”, he added.

Waguinho participated in the meeting the day before, as did the minister of SRI (Secretary of Institutional Relations), Alexandre Padilha.

“Politics leads to this [a trocas]. The questions of political negotiation that have to be done, that’s normal. No hurt, no rancor. We, with President Lula, are different, we have a friendly relationship”, said the mayor.

Waguinho was at the Planalto Palace this Wednesday afternoon, but stated that the meetings were to deal with demands from the Rio de Janeiro bench. He stated that there will be a new meeting with Padilha and that, again, it will not be to discuss his wife’s situation.

The mayor will also meet with the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL).

Daniela Carneiro’s situation became delicate with pressure from União Brasil for Planalto to replace her with deputy Celso Sabino (União Brasil-PA) after Lula negotiated changes in political articulation in exchange for expanding the political base in the Chamber.

The minister is currently on leave from the party, while her husband has already agreed to join the Republicans. União Brasil claims that Daniela’s nomination for the position was linked to President Lula’s quota, and not the party’s.

Waguinho denied this agreement and took the opportunity to attack the leaders of the party, president and deputy Luciano Bivar (PE) and vice president Antônio Rueda. He said that the Tourism portfolio would not only be destined for União Brasil, but for a representative of Rio de Janeiro. For this reason, Daniela Carneiro was chosen.

There was an expectation that the minister would be dismissed on Tuesday, during the meeting with Lula. However, the government stated that she would remain in office. He added that she would participate in congressional hearings to detail her portfolio’s proposals. In addition, she will participate in a ministerial meeting in Planalto on Thursday (15).
