President Lula (PT) began to consider the possibility of appointing a woman to the Federal Supreme Court (STF). Publicly pressured by social movements, he began to collect information on possible candidates for office.

Minister Rosa Weber retires in October. Without her, only one woman will be part of the Court: Cármen Lúcia, appointed by Lula himself in 2006, when he exercised his first term as president.

Lula’s essential problem remains: he does not want to appoint to the Court a person in whom he does not have unrestricted trust and with whom he has a reasonable proximity.

Just as Jair Bolsonaro (PL) stated that he would indicate to the Supreme Court someone who would drink beer or tubaína with him, referring to a minimum proximity, Lula’s interlocutors say that the PT does not want to indicate someone to whom he cannot at least call, if necessary . And today, in legal circles, there is no woman who automatically fits this profile.

On the other hand, there are female judges, judges, ministers of superior courts and lawyers with a history considered progressive and who would have support from sectors of the left for the position. It is about them that Lula is receiving information.

On the list are, among others, the minister of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) Regina Helena Costa, the judge of the Federal Regional Court of the 2nd Region, Simone Schreiber, and the lawyers Dora Cavalcanti and Flávia Rahal.
