Lula speaks with WHO director-general about cooperation to facilitate access to medicines

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) met with the director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, this Wednesday afternoon (20), in New York, in the United States. In the social mediaLula stated that they talked “about the SUS and strengthening the global health cooperation system to facilitate the population’s access to medicines, protect the world from pandemics, improve basic care and promote healthy lifestyle habits.”
This was the first face-to-face meeting between the two. In the conversation, the Brazilian president “recognized the role played by the WHO in combating the Covid-19 pandemic, even in the face of the difficulties caused by the spread of false information about the disease and vaccines”, reported Planalto.
The meeting with the WHO director-general was the penultimate appointment of Lula’s official trip to participate in the 78th United Nations General Assembly. In addition to the president, the ministers of Health, Nísia Trindade, Minister of Women, Cida Gonçalves, and Minister of Indigenous Peoples, Sônia Guajajara, also participated in the meeting.
