President Lula (PT) defended that there should be a social “compensation” in the working relationship between businessmen and workers in the country. According to the president, businessmen only “earn money because his workers worked”. The statements were made in an interview with GloboNews on Wednesday (18). For Lula, social responsibility and fiscal responsibility are antagonistic because of the greed of the richest.

“They (social responsibility and fiscal responsibility) are antagonistic because of the greed, you know, of the richest people. The entrepreneur doesn’t earn much money because he worked. He earns a lot of money because his workers worked. What we want is for there to be only the social counterpart. It doesn’t interest us to have a society of miserable people. We want to have a middle-class society,” he said.

“We want people to have purchasing power. We want people to be able to travel. We want people to be able to buy a house. We want people to be able to buy a car. It’s the bare minimum that we need to guarantee for people. May they consume what they produce. Now, what has happened in Brazil? If you take the economy report, you will see that many people who were rich became much richer, and the people became poorer. Today there are 105 million people with some problem of food insecurity, in addition to the 33 million who are hungry”, declared Lula (PT).

At another point in the conversation, Lula stated that those who make the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grow are not businessmen, but workers. Lula also criticized the independence of the Central Bank.
