Lula maintained the part of the text that prohibits the departure of those convicted of heinous and violent crimes, such as rape, homicide and drug trafficking.
Federal District (DF) – President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva sanctioned, with a veto, this Thursday (11), the bill (PL) that ends the temporary release of prisoners on holidays and commemorative dates. The information was confirmed by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security.
The president only vetoed the section that prevented temporary release for prisoners who want to visit their families. The day out, as the benefit is known, is valid for inmates who are already in a semi-open regime.
According to the legislation, prisoners who are in semi-open prison, who have already served one-sixth of their total sentence and who have good behavior can leave the prison for five days to visit their family on holidays, study abroad or participate in resocialization activities.
Before being sanctioned by the Presidency of the Republic, the project was approved by the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. The part of the law that was vetoed will be reevaluated by Congress, which could override the president’s veto.
