Lula sanctions a 9% readjustment for federal employees and says that contests will be resumed

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) sanctioned, early this Friday afternoon (28), the bill that adjusts the Union budget for a 9% readjustment in the salaries of federal servants after the establishment of a negotiation with unions. The increase in remuneration was approved last Wednesday (26) by the National Congress and includes retirees and pensioners on a linear basis.

Lula also signed the provisional measure that guarantees the percentage to civil servants as of May 1st.

The resources, according to the government, were made possible through the PEC approved at the end of the year and with an additional credit of R$ 280 million also approved by the parliamentarians. According to the Ministry of Management and Innovation, the impact will be BRL 11.2 billion and was already foreseen in the 2023 Budget.

The federal public service has around 560,000 active public servants in the Executive, 47% in the direct federal administration, 39.7% in federal autarchies and 12.9% in federal foundations.

“The agreement may not be everything they wanted, but it is a lot in the face of the hurricane that Brazil has been a victim of in recent periods”, said the president in relation to what would have been a lack of negotiation between the government and unions with former workers. presidents Michel Temer (MDB) and Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

Lula also said that the government found many positions occupied in commission and that they will be gradually replaced by civil servants hired through public tenders, which will be resumed.

“People don’t want to understand that, in order to improve any public service in the world, in any country in the world, you have to hire human beings to do services that only human beings can do. It is not because we are in the developed world from a digital point of view that we are going to do without the human being, we need people behind the counter to greet, listen and say yes or no, ”he said.

Among the careers that require public tenders, according to the president, are those in health, education and the environment.

Minister Esther Dweck, of Management and Innovation, said that the readjustment in salaries was agreed upon by all union centrals and occurred in record time, with the “reinstallation of the permanent national negotiation table, as a guarantee of permanent dialogue with the civil servants”. , [embora] we won’t always be all happy”, he said, complementing, soon after, that this composition was established on an emergency basis.

Esther also stated that the “appreciation of public policies” aimed at civil servants intends to establish measures that are not changed later with each change of government.

A little earlier, Minister Luiz Marinho, of Labor, told the minister that “negotiations are often neither simple nor easy, but tolerance, down-to-earth, listening were needed to build the best results. That was a good result.”

And the president of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto, pointed out that there is an obstacle to job creation at the moment, “that the BC thinks it does not have the technical parameters to reduce the interest rate”.

The reduction of interest would be an injection in the vein in the resumption of formal jobs and the growth of the economy”, he said in reference to the minimum wage appreciation policy launched this Thursday night (27), which will consider the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) plus the percentage change in GDP for the two years prior to the readjustment.

Marinho announced that Lula will edit a provisional measure to formalize the new value of the minimum wage at R$ 1,320, which will come into effect from May 1st.
