Lula returns to defend pressure on politician in their homes – 04/28/2023 – Politics

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) once again urged militancy to put pressure on public authorities in their own homes, as long as it is done “very politely”.

The speech took place during an event at the Planalto Palace, to sanction the 9% readjustment for federal civil servants, this Friday (28).

Lula also attacked former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), whom he called a “coup plotter” and “genocidal”.

“I’ve been saying to the trade union movement that that story of people coming to Brasília to put pressure on doesn’t stick anymore. Those inside the National Congress don’t hear the noise of those outside”, stated the president.

Lula added that it doesn’t matter if there is a march with 100,000 people taking place in Brasilia that the parliamentarians of the National Congress will not hear and will only find out about its existence at night, on television.

“The other day I said something that someone misunderstood. But a deputy, a senator, a governor has a house. So it’s much better to set up a scheme of going to people’s houses very politely, talking to them individually: ‘hey, man , you know me, you went to ask me for a vote'”, completed the president.

The president was referring to the statement made a year ago, in the pre-campaign. On that occasion, at a CUT (Central Única dos Trabalhadores) event, he stated that “disturbing the tranquility” of deputies had more effect than demonstrating in Brasília. The speech, at the time, provoked criticism from Bolsonaristas.

This Friday, Lula also returned to defend the political class. He claimed that common sense statements that treat parliamentarians and other officials as corrupt only lead to the election of people without preparation and good intentions.

And then he took the opportunity to attack former President Bolsonaro, calling him “genocidal”.

“The mania that Brazilian society has of being convinced not to like politics, not to believe in politics, to think that every politician is corrupt, that everyone who is not a politician is honest, is what leads this country to have elected Jânio Quadros with a broom. It is what leads Bolsonaro to be elected fishing for the maharaja.
